Inanna is an ancient Mesopotamian goddess of love, war, and fertility. She is also associated with beauty, sex, divine law and power. She is everything desirable in a woman and so Arlene was inspired to capture an interpretation of her. She was drawn to her strong feminine energy and glorious larger-bodied existence, which has been depicted in this painting.
The colours are earthy to reflect the earlier artworks of her which were made from an almost stone coloured terracotta.
